Explain
Parents' wishes and public spending (Education Act 1996, section 9)
Section 9 of the Education Act 1996 sets a general principle. Children are to be educated in line with their parents' wishes, as far as that fits with efficient teaching and training and avoids unreasonable public spending. The council must have regard to it. This includes when a parent asks for a school that is not covered by the right to ask in the Children and Families Act 2014. It is a principle to weigh, not a right to a particular school.
